Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020
Under the theme of “Living in harmony with nature,” decision X/2 reflecting the revised and updated Strategic Plan for Biodiversity (2011-2020) was adopted by the parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) at the tenth Conference of the Parties (COP10) in October, 2010. The plan encompasses a ten-year framework for action by all countries and stakeholders along with twenty targets known as the Aichi biodiversity targets which aim at safeguarding biodiversity and the benefits it provides along with its sustainable use.
In line with this, countries have set out to develop national targets in support of the Aichi biodiversity targets following which the incorporation of these targets into their updated National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) is considered to be a key instrument to the process of fulfilling the commitments set out in the Strategic Plan.
With this in mind, the Kingdom of Bahrain has set out to collaborate with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) with financial support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to revise its NBSAP and prepare its fifth national report to the CBD.
